CM Points

Effective in November, 2011, the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is no longer issuing approval numbers for courses, conferences or seminars, and will no longer require Diplomates to provide approval numbers on certification renewal paperwork.

Per correspondence from ABIH, it was determined that ABIH review of courses, etc. did not provide any benefit to Diplomates:

"In early 2012, ABIH will provide additional details to manage the transition, e.g., point calculation tools, new guidance documents and updated worksheets. At this time, the method to calculate CM points is not changing.

· Courses: 0.167 CM point for each hour of technical content, minimum of 1 hour

· Conferences: 0.5 point for each 3 hours of technical content

· The point types of IH, IH Ethics, Safety, and Management are assigned based on the subject matter (see http://www.abih.org/general/cmpointrequest.html#definitions)

A Diplomate will no longer need a CM approval number from ABIH (in order to list an event on a CM worksheet)." [from ABIH email]
